Valentino Retires from Attire

Valentino GaravaniWorld-famed fashion designer Valentino Garavani, pioneer of the respected fashion house Valentino, has retired. He showed his final collection for Spring 2008 Wednesday night. Valentino has been a tour de force in couture for 45 years. Despite Valentino’s age (he is seventy-five years old), he has been encouraged by fellow hauttie Karl Lagerfeld to reconsider his retirement, but it’s official now. His partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, will also retire. Valentino has dressed countless celebrities, and his pieces are a favorite for awards season - Cate Blanchett took home an Academy Award in 2005 while donning a custom cornflower yellow Valentino gown, and in 2001 Julia Roberts‘ award for Erin Brockovich saw her in a vintage frock by the designer. He even made a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006. Don’t worry - this isn’t the last you’ll see of Valentino. He is set to star in a documentary later this year entitled “Valentino: The Last Emperor”. The Valentino brand will also continue, with Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti at the helm.

Below are some of the beautiful makeup looks found in Valentino’s repertoire throughout their history. We will miss you, Valentino!
