Like most people, I’d like to have whiter teeth, and I’m willing to go to some extreme lengths to get them. I tried out Rembrandt’s 2-Hour Whitening Kit this weekend to brighten my smile at home. The kit includes 8 ampoules of whitening gel for 4 applications to upper and lower teeth. Here’s how it’s done:
- Spread the whitening gel onto the molds, preferably closest to where the front of your teeth will be.
- Put the molds on your teeth andwait 20 minutes.
- After twenty minutes, run to the sink and rinse your mouth out. Rinse the molds of any leftover whitening gunk.
- Wait ten minutes while your poor gums calm down. Go stare in the mirror every 30 seconds to see if your teeth look whiter yet.
- Repeat 4 times for a total of two hours.
I experienced several personal revelations through this experience, the first of which was that I do not deal well with having gunky solutions and teeth molds in my mouth. The kit comes with two pieces of plastic which you soften in hot water, then fit to the shape of your teeth so that the whitening solution hits all the right places. I had a momentary flashback to a horrifying orthodontist appointment in which I threw up when having impressions made for my braces. Ew. I buckled down, held strong, and made my molds – and am happy to report that I did not vomit this time. Yay!
My gums were somewhat irritated by the procedure, and I found myself drooling and wanting badly to remove the trays at about the 17-minute mark into each application. It was worth it, though: after the first application, I thought I noticed results; after the second, my teeth were definitely whiter. The end result was whiter than I recall having seen my teeth in a long time. Overall, I thought this kit was a great and affordable alternative to expensive whitening treatments at the dentist’s office. Its results were far greater than any other at-home whitening product I’ve tried.
The verdict: 7 out of 10!
Rembrandt 2-Hour Whitening Kit sells at Amazon for $19.38.

I used this product today and it did bleach my teeth a pretty decent amount. However, after the first application my gums stated to burn so bad, by the last application i couldn’t handle it anymore and had to take it out and stop. My teeth look fine, i would have liked more results, expecially for the pain. I would never use this product again and don’t recommend it. I like the crest night effects paint on gel, but everyone in my family doesn’t. It seems to work for me.
This kit is easy to use and reasonably priced. However, I saw virtually no change in the color of my teeth. My teeth are not badly stained or discolored, and are reasonably bright…I just thought this product may whiten then a shade or two more. I did not see much of a change at all. Perhaps you may get better results if your teeth are stained more. Also, it burned my gums and the inside of my lips horribly! I followed the instructions perfectly and wiped off my gums just as it said to do. I also rinsed very well in between applications. That night my mouth (teeth, gums, everything!) hurt. The next morning my upper lip was swollen from the burns/irritation inside my upper lip. I looked as if I had gotten collagen injections to my upper lip! It has been 2 days since I did this, and my gums and inner lips are full of raw patches. I cannot smile, pucker, or move my lips much at all due to the pain. Again..I DID wipe the product off my gums as instructed to do. It may not cause this reaction in some people…but I would suggest than anyone with ANY sensitivities should avoid it all together!
This experience was so terrible. The burning from the gel was hard to deal with and the worst part was my swollen lip in the morning. I had to call in sick to work because my l lips were so huge. My teeth don’t even look whiter!
honestly, not worth it. had it recommended by a friend who says she loved it, but experienced the same upper lip swelling. NOT cool.
I’m currently using this product right now, the burning is a little irritable, on the third tray currently and I’m noticing it more then the last two, but it still isn’t unbearable. This is my second time using the kit and I had compliments the first time about how much whiter they are. I expect the same afterwords, I honestly have no real complaints, I like that its short not a 3 week thing, I can’t stand the strips and even though this is a tad uncomfortable in the overall, I much prefer it to strips or anything else I’ve tried.
I was searching online and I found your site on google. Just finished reading a few of some of your other posts here. I’ve already added your site to my Google News Reader. Thanks for your good and educative posts and please keep up the good work as I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
I used this product about a month ago, hoping for whiter teeth. Like above posts, I do not have stained teeth to begin with. I actually used the whitening strips from Rembrandt and those were amazing. This kit, however, did absolutely nothing for me… at least none that I can see. I should just stick with the strips instead.
Like many of the people have noted above, this is the worst thing I’ve ever tried. I usually use the Crest whitestrips but I wanted immediate results (bad choice)
I did the first 3 treatments and couldn’t take the burning for the last one. By the morning my top lip so swollen and my bottom gums were on fire! The swelling went down within a few hours, but its been 2 days now and my bottom gums are so badly burned I can’t eat solid food or even laugh. My friend is a dentist and told me never to use home whitening trays again. The trays aren’t fitted to your teeth so you end up burning away a layer of your gums. No I sip on salt water every 15mins at work in hopes this goes away.
I think that different things work for different people. I am a smoker and drink coffee all day long. This is the third time Ive used this product and i love the results. the first couple times my gums hurt REALLY bad and even turned white near my teeth. this time I have only been doing one treatment per night and i am on my 3rd night. i think it is working even better than the previous times and there is NO pain. I also don’t use the whole ampule. I use half on the upper and half on the lower, so there is less chance of it splurging onto my gums. i put the gel directly on my teeth before i put in the mouth thing so I’m sure its on my teeth and not my gums. just a few helpful hints.
