Review: Olay Pro-X Anti-Aging Starter Protocol

As my fellow skincare mavens know, it’s never too early to protect your skin from the signs of aging. Olay’s Anti-Aging Starter Protocol is a kit designed to help you do just that. The set of products from Olay’s Pro-X line includes:

• Pro-X Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30
• Pro-X Wrinkle Smoothing Cream
• Pro-X Eye Restoration Complex

All three included products come in slightly smaller sizes in the kit than when sold separately. The set comes with a guide for getting your daily age-fighting on — here’s the rundown:

1. Apply Eye Restoration Complex in the morning to the corners, lid and undereye area, massaging it in until it’s absorbed. (Obviously, avoid getting it in your eyes. Your pupils don’t really need extra collagen anyway.)
2. Slather on the Age Repair Lotion in the AM too — don’t be afraid to douse your face and neck with this stuff.
3. At night, use the Wrinkle Smoothing Cream on your face and neck. Follow up with a little more Eye Restoration Complex because hey, who needs crows’ feet?

The protocol guarantees younger-looking skin in 28 days and packs the highest recommended dose of anti-aging ingredients at around $60 — a bargain compared to Creme de la Mer and the like. But is it worth its salt?

I can’t say I enjoy the Age Repair Lotion much; it’s a bit slippery-feeling. The Eye Restoration Complex and Wrinkle Smoothing Cream feel great on my skin, but honestly, I’ve used better products in both categories. I do love that this kit encourages daily age-fighting for those without the means to spend a lot on skincare products; however, experienced anti-aging buffs won’t be impressed.  I’ve been using this kit for about a month now, and I haven’t really seen any life-altering results.

The verdict: 6 out of 10 — a nice intro to age-fighting for the price, but nothing miraculous.
