Since starting Cosmetology, I have heard claims of the miracle shampoo and conditioner, Mane and Tail. Person after person would say to me, “If you want your hair to grow fast, use this stuff!!” I jump for anything that involves speedy hair growth, so I tried it as soon as I could get my hands on it.
I used Mane ‘n Tail for about two months and although it didn’t really make my hair grow great lengths, I did notice some other likable changes. For instance, immediately after my first use, my hair was softer than ever before. I couldn’t keep my hands off it! Another plus – the conditioner can be used as a rinse-out or leave-in. I use it as both, just to get a little extra softness.
One problem I have with my hair is dullness. after so many color experiments I have been left with no shine. However, after about a week or two, my hair was anything but dull! This stuff really does work miracles! I couldn’t help but stare at myself every time I looked in the mirror. My hair looked fresh, soft and oh-so shiny.
In the end, I was definitely satisfied with my results. The product did all the things it claimed to do on the label: more body, volume, shine, manageable, everything! As for the “miracle grow,” I guess I’d have to keep using it longer, but it could possibly be just a silly rumor.
I give it 4/5 stars…Oh, and yes, it IS a horse shampoo, but don’t worry – it smells pretty good!

I completely agree with this review. My boyfriend used this product and his hair was super soft and smelled great! He said that he noticed it growing faster, but I think that’s just how his hair is.

I remember when the whole Mane and Tail thing got popular. Years before it gained main stream popularity it was what all the girls used after washing their horses mane and tail. After a full day a riding it was nice to wash to able to wash your own hair and the product turned out to be good for people two.
I haven’t used it for myself in a while but I still use it on my horses ;o) .

Thanks, Jackie! Yes, Tara, this product is available at Wal-Mart as well as CVS, Walgreens and most large grocery stores. Sometimes you have to look on the bottom shelf; it’s not one of the pretty shiny ones they put in the middle. What it lacks it packaging, it makes up in performance!

I have been using Mane and Tail Shampoo and Conditioner for sometime now. I live in a rural area with well water and even with water softners and filters changed often, we still have a problem with our hair being “dried” out and frizzy. A hair professional suggested using some baking soda mixed in with my shampoo and conditioner every day and it really did help lot, but it got to be too expensive. I found myself buying 4-5 of those 12 lb. bags of baking soda at Sam’s Club every week, because I had to put it in my washing machine during wash and again on rinse cycles. This got to be expensive. It doesn’t matter how much I spend on salon products, which are expensive, nothing seemed to work. A friend told me about Mane and Tail Shampoo and Conditioner, so I tried it. I figured what the heck, the directions noted that people could use it as well. WOW! The results are amazing and I can’t stress enough how much this product has brought back the life to my hair. It’s shiny again, managable, and YES, it does promote hair growth to some degree. This depends on how slow or fast your hair grows naturally. As for me, mine grows very slow, but I have noticed that after several months of using this product on a regular basis it has shown signs of growing somewhat faster than normal. I now use this product at least 4 times a week and a good salon product the other days. I buy it at Wal-Mart in the section where the dog and cat shampoo is found, usually near the bottom shelf. Shampoo and Conditioner are just a bit over $10 for both. I recommend it for all types of hair. I’m a very satisfied customer. My rating 5 out of 5 stars would definately be a 5+!

I just brought my Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner yesterday at Walgreen( they have a sale where you buy one and get one free), and I’ve noticed a difference as well. I just purchase the Mane and Tail Herbal-Gro hair grease today. I haven’t used this products in years, but just recently read somewhere else where it does wonders for the hair so I decided to give it a try. I like it so far. If it continues to show greatness I will continue to buy it.

Adrienne – I’ve noticed it’s at the bottom of the shelves too! I think it’s probably because the packaging isn’t terribly exciting and it’s one of the lower-priced products, so the stores aren’t as gung-ho about selling them to us.

Many ppl that think of me think of my problem skin, what they don’t know is its only my face and shoulders where my hair touches, the reason is I’m allergic to most hair producta, I may be able to use them for a limited time but w/i 2 weeks I have irrated, hivey skin again. I’m on week three now of the Mane and Tail- and though my skinis not perfect becuase it is recovering still from the before the switch I have noticed less break outs. I have not given up my soap yet to use soley the shampoo but I am tempted to do that as soon as the shampoo is out. Over all, I would recommend this to anyone that is very sensitve, even to “for sensitive” products out there. For hair growth though, I’m not sure, my hair has always grown quickly so if it is growning faster then normal I haven’t noticed.
Becka – that’s wonderful that it’s helping with your breakouts! Do you by chance have a pretty fast metabolism? That would explain both frequent breakouts (since skin cell turnover rate is related to metabolism) and your speedy hair growth.
i heard abt this prod several yrs ago and never tried it. my sister always used it and to this day she still does and has long beautiful thick hair plus it grows really fast. I guess ive never really noticed how fast her hair grows…im going to buy this product this weekend and see…i too cut my hair way too short! i fully regret it!!

I love Mane & Tail, I have struggled forever with split ends. I have been using this product for about 2 months, can’t even find a split end. Those that are having doubts about using this product,,go for it. My hair is so soft and split end free finally.
I must say that about 13 yrs ago my girlfriend told me about this product and said, ” I don’t understand why this stuff is alway on the shelf…these products are the best”! Finally I started using them and boy, I’m so mad for not trying them sooner! I agree with this review, I bought mane and tail in hopes my hair would grow longer. I have noticed that my hair is a lot fuller and softer. I think my hair has grown longer but how do I know if it would’ve grown the same length without the shampoo? My hair is definitely healthier though and since I have colored it so much and use a flat iron daily that is very important to me
Well I’m back to report changes in my daughter’s hair since April 9th…darn what a difference! My daughter is biracial and has that in between hair and boy this stuff as worked wonders already…she’s leaving for the summer and I plan to have her grandmother continue the use of htis product! Mane & Tail is not the Miracle Shampoo…”EQYSS Shampoo & other products” are the ones that really do all the miracle you heard tell about for years. Mane & Tail “jumped” on the rumor and tried to make it theirs, NOT TRUE!!! If you don’t believe ME try them yourself! I HAVE BEEN USING EQYSS PRODUCTS FOR 20 YEARS.
hi ive just bought my first ever mane/tail today, I have severe throid problems and take mega thyroid meds daily, my hair is so dry it sound like straw rubbing together, i lose hair by the handfuls daily, im very very thin on top no bald but close, I dont expect my hair to grow back in these areas but would love to see it get healthy so it will stop falling out, I will let everyone know in a week and weekluy after that how its working, the shampoo and conditioner should last 2 weeks+ for me.
I just brought mane and tail today at a family dollar store, it was $6 for the shampoo and conditioner. I recently had my hair cut and got bangs that I hate. My hair type is dry and frizzy. I use a flat iron all the time and my hair breaks off easily. It just doesn’t seem to ever grow further than a little below my shoulders without me having to get it cut because it looks damaged. So I brought this hoping it will help my hair get healthier and longer. I tried it tonight and my hair does feel a lot softer. It doesn’t look as frizzy either. I rinsed out the conditioner and than put a little in as a leave in. I am going to try and not use the flat iron so much and use the mane and tail and see what happens!

I love this stuff, actually. My hair usually splits extremely quickly after trims, but while using the conditioner, I didn’t find splits for months. It’s fabulous! I also like the smell and the fact that it’s easy to work through hair.

I have been using T-gel off and on for about three months now because I was diagnosed with alopecia areata, and my derm told me to use this shampoo to cut down on the itching, but my hair will never grow back. My hair is balding at the crown, very itchy and dry. But since I’ve been using this shampoo along with taking biotin, I’ve noticed that my nails will grow, but not my hair;instead my hair is getting thinner at the crown, but growing on the sides and back.
I too remember hearing about this “horse shampoo” in the 90’s. Today I went to buy one of those very expensive shampoos for balding, thinning, drying, etc., and I came across Mane ‘n Tail, so I bought a bottle of shampoo and conditioner just because.
When I made it home, I washed my hair with Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo, not the Mane ‘n Tail, and it was very dry, as usual, but the moment I put a quarter size amount of conditioner in my hair and massaged it in really good, I felt the softness. But I wasn’t sold on it yet, as ALL conditioners have that softening effect.
After about five minutes of the conditioner being in my hair, I rinsed it out with lukewarm water, and towel-dried my hair. Three hours later, my hair is STILL soft! I am African-American, and my hair is very natural (no perm, no texturizer, absolutely no chemicals at all) and mind you, I didn’t have to use any hairgrease on my scalp and hair at all!
I will keep you posted on my results when I use the Mane ‘n Tail Shampoo followed by the conditioner.

hi, yh i have been trying to grow my hair for 5/6 years and nothing doing. i am mixed race so my hair is very frizzy. i went on holiday for a wedding and they didnt have any ceramic straighteners they just had a iron shaped in the same way as straighteners and they put it over a fire within 5 mins it had gotten hot and they curled my hair my hair was halfway down my back shiny and glossy. that evening after the wedding when i went to brush my hair my just broke all the way up to my shoulders. over the next 2 yrs it broke up to my jawline. all the oils i was using wer not helping. i want to try some of this mane and tail but i have no idea where to get it from because i live in the uk. if anyone knows of any place that sells it here i will be very happy and i would love to see if it works.

Hello-This is Elaine, from Lindsay, CA. I have been using Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner for quite a while. now. It takes me about 2 to 3 monthss to use up the shampoo, in the large bottle, and I have my boyfriend John buy it for me. It is a little higher-price wise-here, but is worth it. I was introduced to it when it was in a feed store, before it was put on store shelves. Now, I have John buy it for me, all th time. Being a blond, I love the sheen and shine it gives my long hair. I have to shampoo it 2 to 3 times, every 2 days, as my hair gets oily fast. I use the conditioner about once a week, to keep the oilyness down. But, I won’t buy nothing else, now. i’ve used mane n tail several different times. in my experience, when used for a prolonged period of time, WOW!!!. a girlfriend of mine recommended the product to me and we both started using it. me for about 1.5 months now and her for about 3-4 months. i am a hairdresser and when i went to cut my girlfreinds hair…. there was honestly NOTHING to cut off. she had spent the WHOLE summer out in the sun just gardening and what not (we live in alberta, extremely dry weather) so when she’s due for her september cut, i’m normally taking off a good 1.5-2 inches. this stuff is the bomb diggity!!!!! i cant wait to see more results on my hair. to anyone who reads up on this stuff more, DO NOT use the deep conditioners on the scalp!!!!!! use a tiny tiny TINY little bit just on your ends and RINSE OUT, regardless of what the bottle tells you. both deep conditioners are extremely heavy and greasy. as a proffessional hair stylist i recommend people to use the conditioner, shampoo, and strengthening spray.

and p.s. – to those women who complain about grease…. if u wash your hair every single day, your making your scalp produce more grease. your body naturally wants to produce some grease up there, its got nutrients for your hair. thats why your supposed to brush your hair in the morning and at night. to move that grease from the scalp to the ends. you can slowly decrease the amount of grease your producing by simply not washing your hair as much. if you find that your hair is looking greasy and its driving you nuts… BABY POWDER. it soaks up grease with out you having to wash it away.

I’ve been perming my hair for as long as I can remember, and it never seems to grow regardless of what I use. My hair in the back always fall out and my hair sheds like a dog. Im African American, and our hair gets HELLA nappy and blah. I flat iron my hair to make it pretty, but it is just stick straight and just stands there. And when I put it up in a pony tail and I move my head, i stays still! So, my mom told me that when i was younger, She used Mane ‘n Tail on my hair, and thats why my hair is so long. Hi, I just wanted to say how wonderful this product really is. When my sister first told me about it, I thought she was crazy, but then I started to wonder. I went to Sally’s Beauty supply and bought a small shampoo and conditioner…well it was love at first wash. I have now been buying this shampoo/conditioner for 2 years and wouldn’t use anything else. When I go to Walmart for it, I have to look in the pet isle (I love picking it up there too, I get the weirdest looks and these people don’t know what they are missing!!) As far as I have seen, Target does NOT sell it. Well time to wash my hair

I am going to use this product on my hair and my 18 year old daughter’s hair as well. It is so funny because as most of us have heard the old saying “You can run, but you can’t hide!” I was reluctant to use this product back in the 80’s because of the idea that horses were on the bottle!Lol! I was VERY young back then. One thing that ppl were saying then and even more now is that THIS PRODUCT WORKS!!!!!! Okay so the first time I washed my hair with it – I loved the way it came out. I’m not really noticing a big difference in softness like everyone else but I did notice that my hair looks healthy and full of volume. It felt and looked nice. It’s been three washes and so far, the same great result. If I keep seeing this, it was worth it b/c usually a shampoo gets old fast. Let’s see about the hair growth…
I love this shampoo. Due to hormone issues, my hair was fine, started losing it, and my hair took so long to grow 1 cm. I used for 4 wks and it grew almost 1 inch and is healthier. I got the shine back in my hair and it’s thicker. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I have been trying so hard to get my fix my hair. I mean it’s been years and I can’t find anything. I used oils and other stuff, but it was not working and I just gave up. When my friend and I decided to try this shampoo, we were checking out and the cashier asked if it was for us or our horses. I buy expensive shampoo and enjoy the fancy packaging.
I color my hair often and noticed my hair was pretty dry.
I worked on this model last month who had beautiful hai, I asked her what shampoo she used and to my surprise it was mane and tale.
I finally gave in and bought the shampoo and conditionar.
The bottle isnt anything fancy. The product is hands down tge best product I’ve ever used.
My hair usually grows slow.
It’s fuller,shiny,my dry hair is so much happier.
$10 vs.$60 on expensive shampoos that may look pretty but not do the job is out pf my life now.
$10 for mane and tale and great results is my way of life.
Thanks mane and tale for nursing my hair back to health.

It’s now January 9th. I have been using the product since the end of October. I still like it and when I switch to another shampoo for a day, I see a difference in how my hair looks. I immediately go back to it. I do not see a big difference in hair growth so I’m not sure how true that is. I hope my hair will be at chest level by the Spring. Right now it’s right below my shoulders. If anyone actually kept a record of growth over the course of a year -can you predict when I would reach this goal? Thanks.

I’m amixed race so I have really curly hair and it is long it goes to about the middle of my back the problem is is that its not as thick as I want it to be my grandma use this stuff and it worked really good on her hair so ill try it on mine
These reviews are great and I am ready to go out and by the product. However, I was just checking the ingredients on line and noticed that it contains Sodium Laural Sulfate which is used in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers, car-wash soaps, etc. I’ve read that it actually attacks the hair follicles as it is highly corrosive. Experts say to stay away from SLS because it does great damage to skin and hair. I am confused!
hey im from the UK and i pull my hair out [trichtrillomania, i dont do it much anymore but i used to pull it out ALOT] so yeah my hair grows REALLYY slow and it’s very brittle and stuff, it took 4 months for it to get to the middle of my neck to my collarbone [like 3cm] and i want to use this magic M and T but idk if you can get it in england! someone tell me where you can.

oh another thing, my hair’s like afro-carribean and curly because i’m like 8th jamaican so i straighten it everyday, and maybe if like it grew more i’d wear it curly more soo

I have never used it but i am going to buy it today. My daughter has dry,frizzy, unmanageable hair. I really hope it helps her. I might even try it on my dog as i like to bath him once a week and i don’t want him to have dry itchy skin.

yeah ima guy and ive never used this stuff before. but i see there is another type of mane and tail shampoo and conditioner, its called Caballo and its made by Cabellina, i was just wondering which is better mane and tail or the other stuff because i would like to start using one of them
I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! I still use my olive oil products BUT mane and tail shampoo and conditioner is a blessing to my hair. I get soooo many compliments about my hair. Being african american its difficult to find a shampoo and conditioner that keeps your hair healthy and make it shine. I RECOMMEND IT FOR MY SISTAHS!!!!!

My hair growth is a little bit faster, but nothing crazy. I noticed that my ends are a little less brittle, and my hair is softer. but i would reccommend staying with Sexy Hair products. the conditioner makes your hair very greasy so only put it on the ends. Thanks!
main and tale worked by making mi hair soft BUT it made it very thin and it felt as if i was loosing my hair rather than making it grow i would not advise this product to anyone (iam a black women)

Well I have used this shampoo twice now and I absolutly LOVE it. It is quite amazing my hair is soooooo soft. Before I used it I had the hair dresser cut off an inch of my hair as I heard it’s good to get the split ends off first.
I hope this stuff makes my hair grow fast as I would like long hair before summer comes as I live in Alberta. To all of you that are trying it it really does work. I found mine at Walmart $10.00 per shampoo and conditioner…..

I love Mane and Tail. I seriously didn’t think I would. I’ve tried plenty of other shampoos, but this one really works. I have fine, thick, semi-wavy hair, so not every shampoo caters to that. Mane and Tail works really well. The other thing I like about it is the scent. It’s not fruity or too chemically smelling. If you’ve ever smelled or used Infusium 23, you’d notice it has some strong weird nasty smell. With Mane and Tail I can use any scent soap I want and it never clashes with it.
Mane and Tail is the best. I’ve been using it since about 1995 and haven’t even wanted to switch to anything else. Not even for a little while. I have fine hair, but it can be rough and cowlicky or look greasy after one day if I use the wrong product. Mane and Tail is not like that at all. I don’t even have to use conditioner with it, my hair comes out really well. Before I started using this, I would always notice how other shampoo makers are ALWAYS changing their products, the chemicals, etc and then if you were used to buying the same stuff all the time, its all of a sudden different and doesn’t even work as well. Straight Arrow doesn’t do that. The Mane/Tail/Body “original” version I’ve been using since 1995 has NOT changed one bit. I’m greatful for that. At least some company out there knows when they’ve got a good thing going why mess with it? I hope they never change the original one or stop making it.
weeeeelllll it works wonders, as in I applied it , very little and my hair was soft in an instant! I’ve neva been able to leave my hair open, as its natural and had really given up. thats why i bought it lol, i’m like whatever even if its for animals, what do i got to lose right? so today, my hair was full, thick and shiny, no dry. have u eva heard of a product take dry stiff hair to awesome overnight? about the sodium lauryl sulfate yeah its harmful but i guess for my hair there;s no other product available out there now. i use the condish only as it has very little chemicals in it. i’m african so if ur struggling with that natural hair, get some of this stuff.
