As much as I consider myself a beauty aficionado, the one arena in which I still have constant trouble is my nails. Though I’ve made serious strides, I’m still pretty awful with my nails (especially painting them—it always looks like a four-year old painted my nails). I’ve always envied ladies whose naturally long, strong nails made them able to sport the trendiest polish shades.
Hoping to make over my nails, I tried Barielle’s 10-piece Natural Nail Care System, which includes:
- Nail Strengthener Cream to strengthen nails and makes them look healthier;
- Extra Gentle Cuticle Minimizer Gel to soothe cracked and/or damaged cuticles;
- Nail Rebuilding Protein to help nails resist splits, peels, and breaks;
- Clearly Noticeable Nail Thickener to thicken nails up to 50%;
- Lavender shaping pad (your nail file);
- Purple buffing pad to buff ridges and clean stains;
- White smoothing pad to smooth nail edges to a velvety finish;
- Grey chamois conditioning pad, a finer-grain buffing pad that adds shine;
- A clear carrying pouch; and one of those little wooden cuticle pusher guys.
I have a particular penchant for nail buffers, so I was excited to see three different buffing pads inside this kit—plus, they each come on individual sticks rather than all attached to one cube, so each pad is two-sided and stays fresh for longer use. The nail thickener was a relieving treat for ladies like me who’ve succumbed to the temptation of acrylic nails, leaving our nail beds paper-thin. Most refreshing was the strengthening cream, a rich moisturizer that my thirsty nails and cuticles absorbed instantaneously. The cuticle gel also soaked in with surprising speed, despite its combination oil/gel texture.
The verdict: 10 out of 10! An easy, all-inclusive kit for the nail-challenged.
Barielle 10-Piece Natural Nail Care System sells for $25 at Amazon.

Now this looks like a really nice kit! I have shortie nails and I have been using some nail polish lately, red, love red, and it does look like a 4 year old does mine too! lol! But after you wash your hands and use a little moisturizer I notice that the polish on my skin comes right off so it looks perfectly fine. But this looks like a nice kit and I would like to check it out. Thanks.
I emphathise with you on the painting nails bit! Am also really terrible at painting my nails (in fact, my boyfriend does a better job of it for me!). It’s the first time I’m commenting here, but I love your blog! It’s a daily read for me.
Aww, thanks Elaine! I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s no good at nail painting – every time I see other beauty bloggers in person, I’m floored by their perfectly painted nails. On top of my natural ineptitude, all the typing I do constantly chips the polish at the tips. /sigh
