Spring has sprung, and it’s time for me to shed my pasty winter pallor in favor of a season-appropriate glow. In my search for an all-natural radiance a la Gisele, I tried Zosimos Botanicals’ Butternut Bronzer.
Butternut is the perfect name for this bronzer’s shade: it’s a light chestnut-y brown with just a touch of warm rose. I worried this baby would be too pinkish for my skin’s yellow undertones, but it actually gave me just enough color to look naturally flushed without adding that overbronzed Maxim-photo effect. (You ladies know what I’m talking about; those girls look like they bathe with self-tanner.)
The bronzer is matte, which I find refreshing; I don’t really understand why nearly every bronzer these days has shimmer when it’s intended to create depth through adding shadow to areas like your cheekbones. And you organic types will cheer at the ingredients list, which has only three items: mica, iron oxides, and tapioca starch. My only issue with it came in trying to get the bronzer out of the jar to apply (but it’s far from the most difficult mineral makeup to do this with; I’ve actually broken a few products that way).
The verdict: 8 out of 10 — Great for an eco-friendly subtle glow!
Butternut Bronzer sells at ZosimosBotanicals.com for $18.
