Lipstick Jungle Black & White Photo of Nico Reilly, Wendy Healy and Victory FordDid you guys catch this week’s episode of Lipstick Jungle? They plugged Maybelline’s new Mineral Power makeup line endlessly! In addition to the twelve hundred commercials, there was even a “how to” (read: ad) at the end of the show on how to apply makeup to look like Nico Reilly (the character played by Kim Raver). Big surprise: the secret to Nico’s glowing skin is using Maybelline Mineral Power concealer, foundation and blush. Wow! What a shocker! Their demo model for this content-loaded featurette (whose hair was colored and highlighted suspiciously similar to Kim Raver’s…hmmm) spun back around in her chair after having her star-studded makeover…looking nearly the same as when she first sat down. Some transformation. Yes kids, it’s true: you too can look as much more similar to Kim Raver as that girl did if you use some makeup on your face. It could probably be done with Maybelline Mineral Power makeup as well. So they weren’t lying, necessarily; just telling the truth that makes them the most money. Yay for capitalism!

Incidentally, I’m really looking forward to trying Maybelline Mineral Power. Yay for irony! I’m also kind of enjoying this show. Victory Ford is my favorite character - though she’s a little cliche, I love her kitschy That Girl aura. Let’s get a “how to” on those big fringe bangs, eh Maybelline? What’s that? You don’t do hair? Too bad - guess I’ll have to watch Project Runway for TRESemme plugs.
