What’s the most difficult part of applying makeup? The eye area, of course! As if liner and mascara weren’t tricky and messy enough, eyeshadow is hard as well, both in choosing the right colors, applying it evenly, and getting it to stay. Enter ColorOn Professional Instant Eye Shadow Applicators, a nifty new idea that makes eyeshadow easy for everybody. They’re simple little oval strips of shadow that come in a huge range of colors, saving you time and effort both in choosing colors for your eyes and getting it on right. Even though I love to put on my own makeup (that’s why I have this blog, after all…) I could definitely see the benefit in having a product do it for me, and I figured you beginners might appreciate it too!
I got the Best Sellers collection (because after all, they’re bestsellers!) which includes the color combinations Elle, Ibiza, Laguna, Noche, and Sunset Beach. The instructions claim “one size fits all,” a phrase I’m extremely weary of, but it was for the most part true. The shadow stretched a bit too far in toward my nose for my tastes. Difficulty-wise, it’s pretty goof-proof - you place the oval disc on your lash line and hold it in place with your index and middle finger like a “peace sign”. (Aww, how hippie!) Then just pat the applicator with your finger, peel back the applicator, and blend and set the shades as you please. The result? While some of the colors look a bit unnatural, I loved Ibiza - it was warm and intense but not fake-looking. I also got a little jolt of happiness seeing my shadow almost entirely done in about ten seconds, and minus the Q-tip and makeup remover corrections. One thing to note: it may be useful to have some shadow that relatively matches the shades on the chosen applicator handy so you can set the shadow. Also, It can be difficult to remove the eyeshadow, so make sure you have a good oil-based makeup remover handy.
The verdict: 4/5 stars - I loved this concept, and beginners who aren’t handy with their makeup will rejoice. And I loved getting a bunch of new color combinations to help me branch out from my old standby color choices. (They also have some gorgeous animal print ones I’d love to try!)
