As my close friends know, I’m basically obsessed with Sex and the City. I can watch every episode over and over again. So you can imagine my surprise when while watching an episode called “The Real Me” yesterday in which Carrie models in a fashion show, I saw something I’d never noticed before: the late, great Kevyn Aucoin!
Kevyn pokes his head in the mirror’s reflection and consoles Carrie while she’s stressing over her model look. I know he’s not an original choice, but Kevyn is my favorite makeup artist of all time, because of simply that: he’s an artist. His love of makeup is in the creative, transformational vein, and his work is absolutely compelling. Don’t know what I mean? Below are a couple of his looks from Face Forward (go buy it now if you don’t own it):

That’s what I loved about Sex and the City, when I started wathing I was in college and so I enjoyed seeing the places and clothes. When I went on to live in NY, I loved the places they were going to and the fact that I did as well; however, in watching the episodes again and seeing the movies – my work in fashion makes these faces now mean a lot more because they have so many talents that others may not know – it’s the hidden gem that keeps revealing itself at each viewing!
