So your once-genius idea of replicating Kate Moss’s boho chic fringe has gone awry, and now you’re desperate to grow your bangs back out. Worried you’ll have to go around looking like an ex-Beatle for the next two months and an emo kid after that? Have no fear – here’s a guide to growing your bangs out without having to endure an unsightly mop top.
Bangs grow out in three basic stages. Here’s how to keep them fashionable at each step along the way:
- While your bangs are at eye level, try a side-swept hairstyle. Push the bangs away from your part and hold them in place with a little hair gel or hairspray.
- When your bangs reach your nose, whip out the hair accessories. Use headbands, bobby pins, barrettes or clips to keep them out of your eyes. It may be tempting to just tuck them behind your ears, but that’s rarely very flattering and can make it look as though you just have some poorly cut layers.
- Once your bangs have made it to the mouth or chin level, they can be worked into the rest of your hair. If you have longer hair, ask your hairstylist to cut several layers to blend in the shorter fringe.

In all seriousness, growing your bangs is the same as growing the rest of your hair – condition it to keep the ends from breaking and take a little Biotin (a vitamin clinically proven to speed hair growth) every day.
