Yet another reason to hate Gisele Bundchen: that frustratingly gorgeous wavy hair she’s always tossing around in our faces. Want perfectly imperfect waves like Gisele’s? Here’s a guide on getting wavy with it:
YOU’LL NEED:
- A wide-toothed comb;
- A medium-sized curling iron (think 1″ barrel-ish);
- Some leave-in conditioner to set your hair; and
- A pack of bobby pins. (If you have to buy some, get the ones that match your hair color. It’s not necessary for this style, but they’re useful in general.)
STEP-BY-STEP WAVY GOODNESS:
- Shampoo and condition your hair as usual, then gently towel-dry it. (Don’t rub it, though.)
- If your hair is naturally straight or wavy, mist all over with a leave-in conditioner. If you’re naturally curly like these ladies (shoutout!), pull the leave-in conditioner through small sections of your hair to loosen your curls.
- Divide your hair into 10-15 sections, depending upon the thickness of your hair. Twist, roll and pin each section against your scalp.
- Let hair air-dry overnight, then remover hairpins in the morning and use your fingers to separate the waves.
- Touch up your waves by wrapping small sections around a medium-sized curling iron. If your hair is straight/wavy, hold the curl for three seconds, then release. Curly girls: hold for six seconds to turn tight curls into loose waves.
TIP: To keep your wavy hair frizz-free and defined, don’t comb it through once your hair is dry. Instead, use your fingers to scrunch of twirl them.

How can i get natural wavy hair without damaging my hair!! I belive using a curling iron would damage my hair. Is it even possible to get un-damaged natural tousled waves?!!
hi, thanks for publishing this
i was just wondering, what exactly did you mean when you said ‘twist, roll and pin each section…’ because I tried this last night, but it didn’t turn out right.
Could you possibly post a picture ?
thanks so much
LAla – a curling iron won’t damage your hair if you’re using a heat protectant spray. The ones by CHI and TRESemme are quite nice.
LaLaLauren – I’ll try to get you a pic together!
I always try this look, but my hair is super wavy/kinky…it never turns out like loose waves, but some really scrunchy pieces and some almost straight. Its so frustrating! How do I get my curls to relax and have a more wavy, not curly, look? I straighten my hair almost everyday because its so crazy and messy (in a bad way) if not.
i was wondering if you need a specific type of leave in conditioner , if so which one?
