I constantly hear ladies blaming their flyaways on the humidity or the changing season. I’ve got some bad news: the true culprit of frizz isn’t the weather. Here’s a mini-course on frizzy hair, its causes and solutions.
Some hair textures have a natural tendency toward frizz, while others do not. But genetics aren’t entirely to blame: frizz is caused by lack of hydration, so you may not have naturally frizzy hair but have frizzy symptoms due to dehydrated strands. You can combat frizz by using a protein-based conditioner like Ouidad Moisture Lock Leave-In, which also uses natural arnica and prickly pear cactus to promote long-lasting hydration and seal the cuticle layer.
Naturally frizzy hair is more difficult to handle because the hair itself is the culprit. Naturally frizzy hair comes in two types:
-
Wiry hair with a slight wave or curl shape: this hair type is naturally frizzy because its coarse resistant structure hinders a curl or wave pattern.
-
Fine, tiny, Z-shaped strands: this hair type expands because the fineness prevents it from holding a shape.
Either type of naturally frizzy hair can be calmed with a softening treatment from a hair salon. The softening process is a very gentle chemical relaxing combined with a customized deep conditioning treatment that makes each hair curl rather than frizz. Results are looser curl patterns that allow for a completely customized curl or wave – meaning frizz-free waves, bouncy ringlets or voluptuous volume is attainable. You can have this process done three times a year.

Good tip. I like http://www.kenneths.com/main/default.aspx for their shampoo. comditioner & anti-friz products. And, no they are not an affiliate
Make that “conditioner”… forgot to stay away from the computer after drinking.
The secret is Non-Sulfate Shampoo’s. Take it from me I started about a year ago with not using this and my hair is now frizz-free. It is not a miracle only that sulfates strip your hair. They are horrible. Just look for shampoo’s with no sulfates.
Good article. Great information. My advice (I got this from my Grandmom) is try a satin pillowcase. I started using them over a year ago and I’ve seen a big change, not only with my frizzes and split ends but also with my face. I don’t wake up with lines anymore. My hair seems so much healthier. Even my hairdresser noticed the difference. A friend suggested I check out A Touch Of Satin on the web. You can check them out at http://www.atouchofsatin.com. They had some fantastic satin pillowcases. I wanted something with flowers on it and they had several to pick from. They do custom orders so I think I’ll do that the next set I get. It definitely helped the frizz!
Hey cailin, thanks for the posting. So, helpful information.
