Gossip Girl is back, and Taylor Momsen has ditched her short ‘do for a longer, more rockstar-esque hairstyle. With Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett in The Runaways, rocker looks seem to be making a comeback. Here’s a quick guide on how to DIY this look:

1. Distribute a dollop of mousse (try Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mousse for this ruffled look) onto towel-dried hair.
2. Blow dry two-inch sections of hair, using a large round brush to lift hair at the root for extra volume.
3. Spritz one-inch sections of hair with a little texturizing wave spray like Frédéric Fekkai’s Coiff Oceanique Tousled Waves or Beyond the Zone Beach Spray to give hair some added oomph.
4. Wrap small sections of hair around a 1″ barrel curling iron, leaving about an inch at the ends uncurled for an effect that’s wavy rather than curly. Finish with hairspray, and blammo! You’re ready to go forth and rock.
