Stripper-turned-screenwriter Diablo Cody (known as Brook Busey-Hunt to the Social Security Administration) won an Oscar for Writing Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards last night. Based on her Red Carpet look and the fact that she rejected the opportunity to wear Stuart Weitzman’s $1 million shoes, I’m guessing her stylist overdosed on Quaaludes before the event, so she made an outfit using everything InStyle magazine said was fashionable once. Can’t go wrong there, right? Here’s a few of the trends she butchered and how she could’ve done them better:
- usually cute Rihanna-style angled bob haircut: keep it! Drop the rest of the mess.
- red lips: she chose the right color and they match her dark hair. Keep ‘em!
- fringe bangs: I’d like a more layered look. They make her heart-shaped face look chubby.
- porcelain skin: Great for her complexion, but the paleness makes her imperfections (read: fat) stand out. Some bronzer couldn’t hurt.
- leopard print: This outfit is too sexed up for already wild leopard print. Animal prints work, but they should be limited to modest staples for high-fashion impact. And you can’t see it in the photo above, but there’s a giant dip upward in the draping on the front, exposing some inner thigh/knee area. Very muumuu.
- black nails: These are getting outdated, and when they worked, it was on shorter, rounded nails. These big square acrylics are just trashy.
- skulls: Not a trend anymore. Also just trashy.
- bling: The neckline jewelry is the only thing to like about this dress. But the bracelets and giant blue My Girl style mood ring are awful.
