Most of us want whiter teeth, and celebrities seem to have the most covet-worthy smiles around. So how do stars get such brilliantly white teeth, anyway? They go to celebrity aesthetic dentist Dr. Jonathan B. Levine, whose A-list clients include Sarah Jessica Parker, Christie Brinkley, Mariska Hargitay, and Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra D’Ambrosio! (He also founded the revolutionary smile beauty company, GoSMILE.)
Here are some tips for a naturally white smile without expensive products or procedures from Dr. Levine himself:
- Whiten while you chew. Everyone knows that red wine and coffee stain teeth, but did you know that some foods actually whiten teeth while you eat? Apples, celery, spinach, broccoli, lettuce and carrots all remove stains by exfoliating teeth before stain molecules have time to attach to the tooth’s surface. (Yes, now we have to exfoliate our teeth too.)
- Choose the right lip color. If your teeth have a yellow cast, avoid deep dark shades or super-shiny glosses and choose nudes or pinks with blue undertones instead. If your teeth are grayish, avoid red lipstick with blue undertones and stick with a brown-based nude pink.
- Go bronze. Golden skin tones (from a bottle, not the sun!) not only give you a healthy glow, but also make the whites of eyes and teeth look brighter! Try SkinCeuticals Sans Soleil or DuWop Revolotion.
- Accessorize. Bling in gleaming silver or white rhinestones will make teeth sparkle, so choose these pieces over gold, which will exaggerate yellow tones.
- Dress to impress. A bright white shirt only draws attention to less than white teeth, so reduce the contrast with an off-white or cream shade.

I also heard that using a straw helps keep teeth white instead of drinking coffee and soda straight from the cup.
Teresa,
Yes, but be warned: using a straw can, over a long period of time, cause lines around your mouth to form.
[...] Cailin • September 9, 2008 Like most people, I’d like to have whiter teeth, and I’m willing to go to some extreme lengths to get them. I tried out Rembrandt’s [...]
Dear Cailin,
Before resorting to a ‘DIY whitening product’ I tried eating foods which are known not to cause any stains.. such as salads and vegetables. But the results were so slow to follow I got really impatient.
I looked at getting professional whitening done around Christmas 2008, but being a student I simply couldn’t justify the cost.
Around a month ago I simply gave in to a home whitening product a few of my friends started using.. and I have been happy with my smile since. Having said that, I still avoid coffee and soft drinks!
Hope this helps anyone out there who is a little self conscious about their smile. Do not worry!

Alessandra Ambrosio is so a nice looking. What do you think about she?
It is true that certain staining drinks as well as certain foods are also responsible to make our teeth yellow. I also think that by keeping away from these things we can expect more white and clean teeth.
I use Colgate Total Whitening Mixed with baking powder .I had braces and was given a professional whitening kit in 2004 after they were removed. Changing to Colgate from Crest and using inexpensive baking Powder from the baking aisle at any store plus a whitening pre rinse.Has my teeth white w/a pearly shine.I get compliments all the time.Being a Caramel color Black women white teeh are a must to keep because if not they really stand out.Iam in the first stage of 2 dental implants and this is a great routine till I finish the process and get another professional whitening.
I agree with Nicole somewhat. It says that you need to eat certain kinds of food. To help whiten your teeth. Can you put somethings about how to stop gingivitis, quickly? That would help one of my friends!
