Get ready for some science, girls! The latest buzz in beauty and skincare products surrounds nanotechnology, which basically means the manipulation of extremely small particles. The idea is, teeny tiny ingredients can get deeper into the skin, contact more skin layers, and work faster. Some cosmetics companies are using nanotechnology to break down normal active ingredients into nanoparticles so they work more effectively. For example, certain sunscreens are now using nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Another big trend is using nanosomes, which are tiny versions of liposomes (a popular moisturizing ingredient that’s already pretty small), to get moisture more deeply into the skin.
So what does this mean for your skin? Unfortunately, there’s no good scientific data to show proof of nanotechnology products working better yet – but by logical thought, they should.
